animals.
Here in Hawaii, animals may be aumakua (personal guardian spirit) and symbolize a value or inner prompt. One ancient mo’olelo (story) portrays the honu (turtle) as a navigator – it led the first people to the islands. It demonstrates endurance and autonomy. Now, when I see an ‘io (hawk) flying I am reminded to elevate my thoughts. I’ve encountered a pua’a (pig) and after the initial shock, examined my own resistance. Even the nene (goose) reminds me to act firmly.
Look for guidance around you.

Koi (Cyprinus rubrofuscus). Amur carp symbolize prosperity and good fortune and have been bred in Japan for their color patterns.
Honu (Turtle). As I opened my eyes, I saw the honu (turtle) swimming around the rocks at the shore. Through a channel it moved toward me. In that moment I gave thanks for this evident blessing. It prompted me to recall my own freedom and quiet resolve. Look for your own blessings. ~ Eric
