Passion

My spirituality has evolved greatly from the teenager scared by the preacher shaking his finger and shouting, “You better do something tonight because the world could end tomorrow!” A few years later, the words of Rev. Martha Giudici spoke directly to my pain and ambiguity: “Nothing you have done, nothing you have ever done can separate you from God.” Now I know that the world we create in consciousness is ending and beginning every day.

I delight in sharing stories of spiritual transformations. I appreciate offering spiritual ceremonies for significant passages in life: christenings, weddings, memorials, and special blessings.  As an ordained Unity minister, I speak and teach about spiritual principles, scriptural studies, and religious history. I welcome the opportunity to join with you on the spiritual journey.

Experience

As a youth I would occasionally read from the Bible for church services at my family’s country church. One teacher at school began calling me “Preacher.” The nickname caught on with a few kids. Thankfully, it did not last long because I felt embarrassed. As a shy teenager, I also took it as a sign of my growing skill of public speaking!

Along my journey I have discovered terrific spiritual insights while attending other spiritual communities. One fall during seminary I decided to visit several religious gatherings, sometimes multiple services each week. I wanted to participate and observe. I looked for contrasts and similarities and my growing understanding of the divine became clearer.

My background with community organizations includes work in administrative, archival, educational, and clergy positions. I have served as a temporary minister at Unity of Kona, Kailua-Kona, Hawaiʻi and spoken and taught at many other churches.

I preserve historic documents and photographs of Hawaii Island as Archivist at the Lyman Museum and Mission House in Hilo, Hawaiʻi. For more than a decade I worked as Archivist at Unity World Headquarters at Unity Village, Missouri preserving and cataloguing the unique collection of materials documenting the international Unity religious movement.  At Unity Institute and Seminary, I also served as an adjunct faculty member.

I have served on the boards for several community organizations including the Intercultural Community Advisory of Kansas City Kansas Community College and Fountain City Performing Arts for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, at-risk and straight ally teens in the Kansas City area.  The performing arts group offers a safe space for teens to grow and share their views on societal issues through the arts.

Fun fact: As a child my siblings and I had shared a subscription to Wee Wisdom children’s magazine. A few decades later I was working for Unity, the organization that published it for decades.
