The Abundance Zone
Years ago I visited a church where the choir had mostly men. There was something unique about the place. I felt awed by the stone building, the towering ceiling, and the elaborate multicolored windows. The substantial structure was built to last. I found a seat. Women with white hair took their places and several men – some obviously couples. A few parents and a few children arrived. It was an inner-city church in transition. The women had endured – their children had grown, and their husbands had died. The men were survivors too – many of their partners and friends had died from HIV/AIDS. The two female ministers supported the LGBTQ+ community in disagreement with their denomination, they encouraged food programs for those experiencing poverty, and spoke for ending death sentences. Those women stirred my interest in social justice. There was something different about me from experiencing that determined atmosphere.
When do you feel optimistic? Do you use prosperous thinking? Did you first think of money? I believe we can shift to a mindset of abundance, that we hold a sacred capacity of power, and we can become masters of thriving finances as well as successful health, relationships, and careers. The Christian story about feeding more than five thousand suggests abundance.
The disciples tell Jesus of Nazareth to send the crowd away to get food. He tells them to feed the people and they wonder how with only have five loaves and two fish. Jesus pauses, looks up and blesses the supply. The disciples distribute the food, the thousands eat and are filled. Then the disciples gather up baskets of leftovers.
There was extra! Did it really happen? I just want to know what it means for us. Fish are said to symbolize inexhaustible ideas and bread – the very substance of life. The story implies that all things are possible. We live in a plentiful universe. We may set our minds in this abundance zone – a place of awareness of all-sufficiency. Jesus called this realm of creative consciousness the Kingdom of Heaven.
Why aren’t we all rich? What blocks our prosperity? I used to drive through the little prairie town of Tightwad, Missouri. A nineteenth-century tale suggested the name came about when a store owner charged a customer extra for a watermelon! The Tightwad Bank opened in 1984 and so many people deposited their money that the owners once managed millions. Have you ever felt close-fisted or stingy? It may seem logical to hold on to your money yet being generous is a counterintuitive way to thrive. Other challenges to prosperity include doubts, worry, and a belief in lack. What might you and I be impeding?
There is so much loss in the world! As I write, more than 572,000 Americans have died from COVID-19 and worldwide there are many more souls who have left the human plane. In the United States thousands are killed or injured from gun violence each year. We grieve. We can also act. How do we alleviate disparity, division, and violence? How do we focus on wholeness – our own, our fellow human beings’, and our planet’s? Let us begin by shifting to compassion because there is more than enough for everyone.
We each have spiritual abilities – one of those is power. We often associate this activity of dominion with speaking. As we grow in mastery, we move to a place of self-confidence. In our practice of prosperity, we may use affirmations, tithing, goal setting and forgiveness. Speak boldly from the zone of plenty.
Are you in the zone? Accept the idea of all-sufficiency – there is more than enough! Claim your abundance. Pair your spiritual ability of power with your other spiritual powers. Play with life. Share your generosity. Become a sage of love. Use your dominion for joy. I join you in flourishing in the abundance zone.
I thrive when I place my consciousness in the abundance zone.
